Ok, so I had thought I was going to make it thru the election without really making any direct comments about the Harris County Sheriff's race, despite being so intertwined with Candy's life the last year or so. I even had a bet with my partners here at CSBA that I could make it—tho the odds were clearly in their favor anyway. This morning I saw two articles from this past week. The first is linked in Candy's tweet below about how the Sheriff's race was heating up. From our perspective at the CSBA, the race was already boiling over in a bad way months ago when Candy was in full Pitt Bull mode on twitter, her blogs and on topix.com as "campaign coordinator." When I saw Candy linking up that article, I felt the other article, or rather the Polling data that was the cited in the second article needed some time in the sun (or moon if you are a night person). A poll conduct by
KUHF/KHOU between October 17th and 27th had some interesting results in the field of Sheriff. Keep in mind, this was a week+ ago, with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%:
Adrian Garcia 51.1% — Louis Guthrie 31.8% — Other 2.0% — Undecided 13.0%
The pdf of the poll results can be found on
KUHF's website HERE. Pages 2 and 6 are the ones with all the details for the Sheriff's race. Just a reminder: this is one poll—take from it what you will.
I don't think anyone in the Tea Party has bothered to try to "un-skew" it, but if anyone sees that they have un-skewed it, please post the results in the comments section.
Update:
So I am not sure if this qualifies as un-skewing, but it certainly qualifies as spin.
Take a moment to read Big Jolly's take on this poll. Is he pointing fingers? I think he missed someone to blame in there. ;-)
Negative Social Media Shadow Campaigns can go either way in spectacular fashion. Just Saying!
Update 2:
Final Unofficial Tally: Garcia 52.95% — Guthrie 45.2% — Alessi 1.85%
So In the end, those that were undecided or did not answer the question on Sheriff for the most part gravitated to Guthrie, however, that was certainly not enough to overcome Garcia who polled very well to begin with.
