How many times have you wondered if what you’re doing to make the World a better place really made a difference? I can say there have undoubtedly been seasons in my life where the battles I fought were largely on my own. I have taken quite a bit of heat for several things I believe in. Sometimes, I questioned the wisdom employed in deciding to take on the system without much backing. More often than not, I was pretty much a one-woman army when I chose to do what others can’t or won’t–expose corruption in our School Districts, Texas public Education, and Local Politics. Why would I bother?
I’m not boasting; rather, hoping to motivate others to stand up proudly for what you believe in. Be willing to not make a difference in the off chance you just might. I can tell you first hand that you may not see the difference you made–ever. But you should take comfort in knowing that in all likelihood, you have. Why do I believe this? Because I have advocated strongly long enough to see that one person standing for what’s right does. I’ve also had outside verification that my actions mattered. Usually, the verification came in the form of pretty extreme retaliation, but I’ve made it through scorched earth retaliation boot camp and my skin is quite a bit thicker now. Most importantly, I have no regrets–period–because I am confident my voice mattered and was heard loud and clear!
Maybe I just grew tired of living in a World surrounded by corruption on every side–school district officials, lawyers, and politicians greasing their own palms (and that of their cronies) rather than representing our interests. Tired of the hypocrisy, the lip service, and pretending To care. It’s now the rule, not the exception. So, I willingly painted a target on myself to expose corruption. It all began in 2010 when my School District pointed their canons at the wrong kid–my son. In exchange for stepping on the arrogant toes of a second rate lawyer, my District unwisely chose to use me as an example of what they do to parents who want too much–which usually consists of what they’re already entitled to under federal law. It was an extremely unpleasant year for all involved in that decision. Did I suffer? Yes, but without doubt, it was WORTH IT!
My most recent unpleasantry began when I entered the throat slitting World of Houston politics. Without going into too much detail, let’s just say I upset the apple cart on Carl Pittman and Adrian Garcia’s Sheriff Campaigns. Pittman and Garcia’s rabid groupies still haven’t stopped licking their wounds. I find it amusing that a relatively obscure attorney could get underneath the “Great Adrian Garcia’s” skin, but then again, I didn’t know how thin it was. Not to mention Pittman’s rabid groupies. What did I do to become the proverbial thorn in their sides? Good old fashion legal work–digging. Don’t be naive enough to believe I was ever anyone’s campaign strategist or manager. That’s not my specialty and I have no problem admitting it. My expertise is limited to legal, with a knack for making people angry enough to invest a year of their time following my every move, deceived enough to think you care.
So, is it worth it? Is standing up against the corrupt, sold out powers that be and exposing their deceit really worth it? Without hesitation, I say YES! Don’t get me wrong..I have no delusions of fame on even the smallest scale. That has never been the goal. What is my goal? To be true to what’s right, to be willing to take a stand for my convictions, to be a voice for those who have none, and to merely try to make my obscure corner of the World just a little bit better place. Will you hear more from me? Absolutely. I’m just getting started. You see, I don’t need a pat on the back or to even see that my actions made a difference. I’ve undoubtedly seen they have, but at the end of the day, I can rest knowing that I at least tried. Time for a new Chapter now that the election is over. Or is it? Here’s a shout out to my fans!
