Extraordinary Artist & Woman ~ Anne Geddes [Originally Posted chicksandpolitics.com]

After my week of Occupy, it was such a breath of fresh air to see kindness. Join me celebrating the amazing artistic talent of Anne Geddes. There are no words that describe how unbelievably magnificent I have always found her. Why? Not only is she a stunning artist, but shes warm, kind, and not what I anticipated after week one, sentenced to Occupy for crimes not committed. I cannot say how much I think of this woman and the gracious woman who contacted me. I simply was unprepared to be treated with kindness. While this image was cropped to have cute little faces in Atty4kids Website, I removed it immediately-even with 30 days. See Teddy.

It’s evident that I need to get up to 2012 on Art, as I purchased teddy bear brown wallpaper with a sleeping baby on it from a site with no copyright notice and did not for a second clue in–Anne Geddes. I love the photographs that made her so famous of Babies coming out of flower petals and flower pots. Honestly, my caviar taste loved the wallpaper and I fell hook, line and sinker! I was so in love with the warmth it exuded, I did not see the baby until much later, if you can imagine! I am glad to know, make no mistake, but the minions continue to attack! I’m expecting it though it’s died down from mass hysteria. Strange, Anne Geddes, famous, would grant 30 days for her indisputably beautiful work, yet stalker not a second!

The most pleasant surprise–was kindness is the essence of how Anne Geddes conducts business. She could have shut the Non-Profit down if you wanted to do so. I never imagined it was Anne Geddes!

I was truly humbled reading her company letter. Thirty days to consider removal? , Geddes could squish me like a fly, but she didn’t. I so appreciate the kind offer, but now that I know, I cannot, absent an agreement?

But, Teddy grew on me without me knowing it. So, I am praying for something I do not deserve and will be fine if I’m told no. That happens when you grow up. I am praying for God to make a way to pay Anne Geddes to use the image on this site only. It the essence of warmth–like a big hug, very inviting. I am going to try to speak with her company and see what they are open to. But win or lose, we won big today. We experienced something so dumbfounding, I am speechless.

As the great great great+ grand-daughter of Henrik Ibsen, writing is in my veins, art..not so much! I suppose that’s why we are all here on Earth together! To contribute things to the World that would not exist but for “you” and “me.” If you feel compelled, thank you for your prayers for our success. It may seem silly to you, but I work with children and it’s far from silly. I am seeking a limited permission from Anne Geddes to permit Attorneys for Special Needs Children to use the teddy bear image on this site only? We can use our established logo/brand, so I’ll leave this one in Anne’s and/or God’s hands. I respect her tremendously and have no idea what her work sells for. There are zillions of images on sites–paid sites–and the frightening thing is you have no idea that the image belongs to someone else, much less someone like Ms. Geddes. I feel silly not seeing the connection. Maybe it was the brown?

Many things on the internet are not copyrighted at all, though I suspect that will change. Copyright notice is vague at best. But beware! Not everyone is as kind as Ms. Geddes. The geeks have this super spy gear that can scan the internet in search of one photo and find it wherever it may be! Best practice? Follow all of the links and hope you find the true owner and work out a deal beforehand. Legally, you are granted “permissions” and sometimes, a limited use licenseThe Digital Millenium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) grants the ISP notified a certain time period or “safe harbor” period– which blocks further liability if the image is removed. It has not gone without criticism, though.

It seems to have taken the teeth out of the “fair use doctrine” to some degree and Google reports that over 1/3 are fraudulen? I believe this lady. Her reputation precedes her, as does her work. If dealing with a big company or Artist, like Anne, ask for samples of the permissions typicallyused by them. Depending upon your anticipated use, you may wish to seek legal counsel. I did, but a few issues remain to be fleshed out. Check Back! I graduated law school 14 years ago, and told my father, “IP is the wave of the future.” Please hit me now! He happens to be a patent attorney. Most do not realize how specialized the practice of law has become! There are literally mines everywhere to step on. It’s a wonder you can make it to work without a lawsuit.

Running a disabled children’s non-profit at the same time as your political blog during a nasty campaign–maybe tenuous! I am grateful that Savannah came forward to share her images with Atty4kids, but would be remiss if I did not say I love this one. I can use the logo or a zillion photographs of Savannah, which I’ve yet to see, so God, it’s your call. To the Non-Profit, remember one thing: regardless of the answer, we didn’t lose. We won big and I have a Flickr of hope I can endure my colleagues! Pray for her success and sweet spirit in treating us with kindness. What an amazingly gifted woman! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Bye teddy!
