Crystal’s Column – “Losing Your Soul & Dignity to Win An Election” [Originally Posted Chicks & Politics blog]

After enduring the most vomalicious soap opera I’ve ever seen, I created Crystal’s Column, so the world has my take as a Relatively Young Woman Republican on Politics. I’m a regular girl, usually sweet and reserved, but not part of Obama’s Gen 44. Ive found my voice amongst this nut filled World. I don’t necessarily believe you will be swayed much by a pretty face or care. There’s more beneath the surface than just a pretty face. I’m going to take a risk because it seems people do care what we have to say! We began blogging, we viewed CHICKS as a novelty! We thought some would enjoy the humor, biting sarcasm, and free spirits. We are shocked that we’ve become a force to be reckoned with in Houston Politics.

Politics is dirty, but we decided “enough’s enough.” All it takes for evil to prevail is for men and women of character to remain silent–whether through fear of political retaliation (it’s real) or plain apathy. Silent no more. As America slept, content with six figure salaries, a big home, 2.5 kids, something dark infiltrated our government. At the State, Local, and National level, something wicked this way came alright! Now it’s time to wake up and take back our Cities, States, and Nation! Time to kick the crooks to the curb and replace them with men and women of Integrity, of God.

Atty4kids’ despicable experience is over the top–way over (puke, I agree), but I’m not surprised. The only “weapon” a corrupt politician has is deception–trying to make voters believe the horrifying stories are not true and propagate lies to discredit good people. Those with the courage to speak out for righteousness’ sake always suffer. They’d prefer shooting the messenger than fixing deeper problems. If the criticism is abuse in the Jail, you can correct misconduct (and issue self serving baby kissing how great thou art press releases to avert attention). But if YOU ARE the problem, “Houston, we have a problem.” I implore our leaders to take a different path this time–the high road. Proverbs makes clear that eventually, all things shrouded in darkness that you thought would be hidden forever–will be brought forth into the light and made known.

Regardless of the stake you hold in winning anything, if you lose your soul in the process, you’ve lost everything. Dignity is sorely lacking. Win or lose, it’s always been about how you play your hand. Consider: if you weren’t acting like the mafia, you would not have P.R. Dilemmas. There’s a very easy solution to your problems: knock it off, straighten up and fly right. What ever happened to doing these right? Your character and soul are everything. If you lose that, you may win a battle but you’ve lost a very important war.

I wholeheartedly believe Atty4kids’ story and think those in charge should consider the cost. You may not know this, but you have lost a large number of votes as a result of your conduct already. To continue your campaign of harassment against an advocate well known in the special needs community for giving, sacrificing her own needs to advance their rights, enduring personal attack, drama and slander, you are ALIENATING voters in droves.

People are outraged that your target is a mom who’s proven herself to be one of the strongest advocates for disabled kids Statewide. We have a right to talk about those who will govern, even if you don’t like it. That’s part of being a public figure–accountability. Questioning public figures is core First Amendment protected speech. It is morally reprehensible and illegal to silence speech simply because you don’t like the message. Its also a felony. But that’s the reason we need lawyers–to keep the corrupt in line. Losing an election is not a tragedy. Losing your soul is.
